3 Steps For Avoiding Rear-End Collisions

It’s been my experience that the majority of clients seeking a San Antonio car accident attorney have been involved in a rear-end collision. In fact, getting rear ended is by far the most common type of auto accidents in San Antonio. There are a lot of reasons for this, but mainly, rear end collisions occur out of negligence. In today’s society more and more drivers are distracted behind the wheel, whether it be text messaging, or using a GPS system – many drivers today simply aren’t paying attention to what they’re doing behind the wheel. And, while you can’t prevent every rear end collision, there are steps you can take to reduce the chances that you’ll be involved in such a collision:

1:Give Your Brakes a Tap.  What catches other people’s attention about brake lights is not the fact that they’re bright or red. It’s the fact that they are noticeably brighter than your regular taillights and that they flash that catches people’s attention. If you want to increase the chances that you’ll be noticed when you are about to stop, tap your brakes a couple of times before you actually start slowing down for your turn. The flashes tend to catch people’s attention.

2:  Give Plenty of Warning. Make sure you give people plenty of warning when you’re going to make a turn. Put your turn signal on at least a couple of seconds before you intend to turn off. This ensures that there is enough time for the people behind you to notice your turn signal and to give them a chance to get ready to brake so that they can accommodate you making your exit off of the road. If you uldon’t do this, it’s much more likely that you’ll end up getting hit.

Slow Down Gradually

. Make sure you slow down for your turns gradually. This gives people time to slow down and to match your speed so they don’t end up jamming on the brakes just before you make the turn. If they lockup their brakes, there’s a chance that they’re going to end up sliding into you and causing damage or injury.

Provided that you are driving responsibly and that you were giving everyone around you adequate warning that you are about to turn, you shouldn’t be rear-ended. If you are, you may want to speak with a San Antonio car accident attorney about filing a lawsuit. In some cases, these lawsuits end up paying out considerable sums of money in settlements and awards, depending upon how strong the case you have and how good of a lawyer you have. That is why we strongly recommend hiring an attorney that specializes in car accident cases, because a car accident specialist will know the ins and outs of insurance law as it relates to automobile accidents, and will know how to overcome the tactics that insurance companies employ to reduce or deny settlment claims. A “jack of all trades” lawyer, sometimes referred to as a general practitioner, will probably not be able to get you as large a settlment as a attorney that specializes motorvehicle accident cases.

Texas Jury Awards $650,000 To Women Who Underwent Unnecessary Hysterectomy

San Antonio Texas injury attorneys As Texas injury lawyers, we’ve come to realize that at some point in our lives, each of us will almost certainly experience some type of injury.  While each of us hopes that we’re never the victims of a catastrophic or debilitating injury, it’s almost certain that someone we know will suffer significant personal injuries.  In many cases, these devastating injuries are caused by the negligence of another person, in which case the victim or their family may have a personal injury claim for damages.

In fact, a Dallas Texas jury awarded Rosemarie Marin $650,000 due to the negligence of doctors in misdiagnosing her with cervical cancer.  Marin and her husband desperately wanted to have another child, but after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, the doctors strongly recommended that Marin have a hysterectomy due to the diagnosis.  Following the surgery, the doctor reported that there was no cancer found.

A Jury found that the doctors had acted negligently in failing to perform further testing before diagnosing Marin, and recommending she undergo a hysterectomy surgery.
